Hughie Jones A member of the Spinners folk group until their disbandment at the end of 1988. Hughie and the band made over 30 LPs and dozens of compilations were produced on the Fontana, Philips and EMI labels. Many of these are now available as CDs. Hughie plays guitar, banjo, ukelele and was taught harmonica by the legendary bluesman Sonny Terry. Hughie married banjo-playing Christine and has a grown-up daughter and a son who is also a musician. Recently Hughie has produced a book of his songs, remembrances and yarns called “Hughie’s Ditty Bag”. The songs can be heard on the companion CD of the same name, produced by Fellside Recordings. His latest CD “Seascape” is a collection of sea songs from the 16th century to the present day. Hughie’s solo career centres around nautical material, and this has given him a platform at maritime events at home and abroad. However his repertoire of land-based songs gained through 35 years of performing professionally guarantees good entertainment for any audience.
