Fylde Folk Festival

Last Orders

Northumbrian and Cumbrian four-piece Last Orders have been crowned winners of the 2007 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. The instrumental band claimed the title at the end of a jaw-dropping night of music in London’s Union Chapel, where once again six of the UK’s most promising young folk acts performed for the chance to win a host of prizes and kick start their careers.

Last Orders are Joe O'Connor on Melodeon, David Jones on Fiddle, Matthew Jones on Guitar, Kevin Lees on Fiddle. From lively polkas to haunting slow airs, they play self-penned and traditional music from all round the world. Not only do Last Orders play for concerts, but also for ceilidhs, bringing an exciting and youthful energy to the dance floor.

Joe, Matt, Dave and Kev met when they were all members of Folkestra, a 17-piece band run by Kathryn Tickell at the Sage, Gateshead. After putting together a set of tunes to record on a Folkestra CD, they realized that they loved playing together and decided to enter the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award.

Having won this competition, a string of major festival dates followed, and they should be in great form by the time they get to Fylde!
